{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-157.397","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 157.397","heading":"Salary supplement for speech -language pathologists or audiologists --","body":"Supplement to be considered in calculation for retirement.\nNotwithstanding any other statute to the contrary:\n(1) (a) If funds are appropriated by the General Assembly for this  purpose, a local\nboard of education shall provide an annual salary supplement to all speech -\nlanguage pathologists or audiologists:\n1. Who are employed by the local board of education to provide or\ncoordinate speech -language pathology or audiology services  for\nstudents; and\n2. Who hold:\na. i. A certificate of clinical competence issued by the American\nSpeech-Language Hearing Association; or\nii. Board certification from the American Board of\nAudiology; and\nb. i. A valid Kentucky credential approved and is sued by the\nEducation  Professional Standards Board under KRS\nChapter 161; or\nii. A license approved and issued by the Kentucky Board of\nSpeech-Language Pathology and Audiology under KRS\nChapter 334A.\n(b) The salary supplement shall be in the same amount as the salary supplement\nprovided to a public school teacher who has attained certification from the\nNational Board for Professional Teaching Standards as provided in KRS\n157.395. If the amount appropriated  by the General Assembly is less than the\namount necessary to meet the requirements of this paragraph, the salary\nsupplement received by each qualified speech -language pathologist or\naudiologist shall be reduced proportionately by the Department of Educati on\nso that all eligible individuals receive the same amount as a supplement.\n(c) The supplement shall remain available to a speech -language pathologist or\naudiologist so long as funds are appropriated for this purpose by the General\nAssembly, and the speec h-language pathologist or audiologist continues to\nmeet the requirements established by this subsection. The supplement shall\ncease if the speech-language pathologist or audiologist is employed in another\ncapacity by the local board where the provision of speech-language pathology\nor audiology services is incidental to his or her other duties.\n(d) The Department of Education shall:\n1. Determine how many speech -language pathologists and audiologists\nqualify for the supplement each year;\n2. Determine the amou nt of the supplement available each year for each\nqualified speech -language pathologist and audiologist based on\nappropriated funds available;\n3. Notify each local board of education of the supplement amount available\nto each qualifying speech -language pat hologist and audiologist\nemployed by the local board of education; and\n4. Develop a process for payment to local boards of education of\nsupplement amounts due;\n(2) If funds are not appropriated by the General Assembly to support the salary\nsupplement established by subsection (1) of this section, a local board of education\nmay provide an annual salary supplement under the conditions established by\nsubsection (1) of this section using the resources available to the local board of\neducation; and\n(3) The supplement authorized by this section shall be considered in the calculation for\ncontribution to the Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System.","path":["KRS Chapter 157"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=3324","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:02Z","sha256":"103c4de4865f282710c1c0ba70f6fdb1f4d1c3844f6024eab3aa128e07515f14","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-157.395","next":"us-ky/krs-157.400"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
