{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-157.921","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 157.921","heading":"Kentucky Geographic Education Board -- Purpose -- Membership  --","body":"Bylaws.\n(1) The  Kentucky  Geographic  Education Board  is established to provide\nleadership and  planning for geography  education for the population of\nKentucky through the efforts of elementary, secondary, and postsecondary\neducators, government agencies, and public interests. The board shall be an\nindependent agency and be attached to the Education and Labor Cabinet for\nadministrative purposes.\n(2) The  twelve (12) member  board shall be appointed to two (2) year terms,\ninitially appointed by the Governor, and composed of the following members:\n(a) Three (3) representatives from postsecondary institutions;\n(b) One  (1) representative from the Council for Social Sciences;\n(c) Six (6) representatives from elementary and secondary schools;\n(d) One  (1) representative of the Department of Education; and\n(e) One  (1) representative of the Council on Postsecondary Education.\n(3) The  board shall select from its membership  a chair and establish bylaws,\nincluding bylaws governing board membership  and length of terms. Upon\nexpiration of the initial appointments and  adoption of bylaws governing\nmembership  and  length of terms by  the board, the board  shall be\nself-perpetuating, and the appointment and length of terms shall be made  in\naccordance with the board's bylaws.
