{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.007","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.007","heading":"Definitions for chapter.","body":"As used in KRS Chapter 158 unless the context requires otherwise:\n(1) \"Advanced placement\" or \"AP\" means a college -level course that incorporates all\ntopics and instructional strategies specified by the College Board on its standard\nsyllabus for a given subject area and is licensed by the College Board.\n(2) \"Advanced science and mathematics\" means Advanced Placement or AP biology,\ncalculus, chemistry, computer science, environmental science, and physics, and\nInternational Baccalaureate or IB biology, chemis try, computer science,\nenvironmental systems, mathematical studies, further mathematics, and physics.\n(3) \"Board\" means the Kentucky Board of Education.\n(4) \"College Board Advanced Placement examination\" means the advanced placement\ntest administered by the College Entrance Examination Board.\n(5) \"College Board\" means the College Entrance Examination Board, a national\nnonprofit association that provides college admission guidance and advanced\nplacement examinations.\n(6) \"Core curriculum\" means at least one (1) course in science, one (1) course in\nmathematics, and at least one (1) course in two (2) of the following subject areas:\nEnglish, social studies, foreign language, and the arts.\n(7) \"Department\" means the Kentucky Department of Education.\n(8) \"Dual credit\" means a college -level course of study developed in accordance with\nKRS 164.098 in which a high school student receives credit from both the high\nschool and postsecondary institution in which the student is enrolled upon\ncompletion of a single class or designated program of study.\n(9) \"Dual enrollment\" means a college -level course of study developed in accordance\nwith KRS 164.098 in which a student is enrolled in a high school and postsecondary\ninstitution simultaneously.\n(10) \"International Baccalaurea te\" or \"IB\" means the International Baccalaureate\nOrganization's Diploma Programme, a comprehensive two (2) year program\ndesigned for highly motivated students.\n(11) \"Kentucky Virtual High School\" means secondary -level instructional programs or\ncourses offered by the Kentucky Department of Education through the Internet and\nother on-line, computer-based methods.\n(12) \"Kentucky Virtual University\" means a college -level instructional program offered\nby the Council on Postsecondary Education through the Intern et or other on -line,\ncomputer-based methods.","path":["KRS Chapter 158"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=3417","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:03Z","sha256":"2bb54368123834da7a12624c96d35df37092604b494db1c153d3c4c7d1f9aa19","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-158.005","next":"us-ky/krs-158.010"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
