{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.1413","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.1413","heading":"Essential workplace ethics instruction program -- Required biennial","body":"collaboration -- Symbol of attainment of essential workplace ethics indicators.\n(1) Each school district shall implement essential workplace ethics programs that\npromote characteristics that are critical to success in the workplace. Each student in\nelementary, middle, and high school shall receive essential workplace ethics\ninstruction that shall include but not be limited to:\n(a) Adaptability, including an openness to lear ning and problem solving, an\nability to embrace new ways of doing things, and a capability for critical\nthinking;\n(b) Diligence, including seeing a task through to completion;\n(c) Initiative, including taking appropriate action when needed without waiting\nfor direct instruction;\n(d) Knowledge, including exhibiting an understanding of work -related\ninformation, the ability to apply that understanding to a job, and effectively\nexplain the concepts to colleagues in reading, writing, mathematics, science,\nand technology as required by the job;\n(e) Reliability, including showing up on time, wearing appropriate attire, self -\ncontrol, motivation, and ethical behavior;\n(f) Remaining drug-free; and\n(g) Working well with others, including effective communication skills , respect\nfor different points of view and diversity of coworkers, the ability to\ncooperate and collaborate, enthusiasm, and the ability to provide appropriate\nleadership to or support for colleagues.\n(2) (a) A school district shall use the essential workp lace ethics characteristics listed\nin subsection (1) of this section when creating a program or when choosing an\nexisting program.\n(b) Each school district's local workforce investment board, in conjunction with\nlocal economic development organizations from its state regional sector, and\nother economic, workforce, or industry organizations the workforce\ninvestment board deems necessary, s hall recommend to the school district\nbest practices which may be used by schools to implement an essential\nworkplace ethics program.\n(3) Every odd-numbered year, each local school board shall collaborate with the local\nworkforce investment board, in conj unction with local economic development\norganizations from its state regional sector, and other economic, workforce, or\nindustry organizations the workforce investment board deems necessary, to\nestablish essential workplace ethics indicators for middle and  high school students\nthat are aligned with the essential workplace ethics characteristics listed in\nsubsection (1) of this section.\n(4) Each local school board shall design and adopt a diploma seal, certificate, card, or\nother identifiable symbol to award  students deemed as having minimally\ndemonstrated attainment of the local board's essential workplace ethics indicators.","path":["KRS Chapter 158"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=57159","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:04Z","sha256":"c9fac40f6e416c18bc7b70795202ad2838863f4911890f30067bf7a92d2a13c2","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-158.1411","next":"us-ky/krs-158.1415"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
