{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.299","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.299","heading":"Type 1 diabetes informational materials -- Requirements.","body":"(1) (a) The Kentucky Department of Education, in coordination with the Department\nfor Public Health, the Kentucky Board of Licensed Diabetes Educators, or any\nother entity the departmen t deems appropriate, shall develop Type 1 diabetes\ninformational materials for the parents and guardians of students. The\ninformational materials shall include but not be limited to a:\n1. Description of Type 1 diabetes;\n2. Description of the risk factors and warning signs associated with Type 1\ndiabetes;\n3. Description of the need for screening for early detection of Type 1\ndiabetes using a blood autoantibody test; and\n4. Recommendation for parents and guardians to immediately consult with\ntheir child's pri mary care provider to develop an appropriate treatment\nplan if they believe that their child displays warning signs associated\nwith Type 1 diabetes or has received positive early detection screening\nresults. Parents and guardians shall be advised that a tr eatment plan may\ninclude consultation with, and examination by, a specialty health care\nprovider licensed to practice medicine or osteopathy, including but not\nlimited to an endocrinologist.\n(b) The department shall make the informational materials require d by this\nsubsection available to school districts at no cost on the department's website.\n(2) Each local board of education and public charter school board of directors shall\nmake the Type 1 diabetes informational materials developed in accordance with\nsubsection (1) of this section available on the school or school district website, in\nthe main front entrance of each school, and in each family resource and youth\nservices center.","path":["KRS Chapter 158"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=57550","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:04Z","sha256":"a901700aadd6c023fc3d0346d1811b3038c6f5d9d2c80b86e8e5185b1f57293e","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-158.297","next":"us-ky/krs-158.300"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
