{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.302","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.302","heading":"Cardiopulmonary resuscitation training required for high school students.","body":"(1) The General Assembly hereby finds that training Kentucky students in\ncardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures will:\n(a) Increase students' ability to respond to eme rgency situations at school, home,\nand public places;\n(b) Benefit Kentucky communities by rapidly increasing the number of people\nready to respond to sudden cardiac arrest, a leading cause of death in the\nUnited States; and\n(c) Assist students in becoming responsible citizens consistent with the goals\nestablished in KRS 158.6451.\n(2) Every public high school shall provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation training to\nstudents as part of the health course or the physical education course that is required\nfor hig h school graduation or the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps course\nthat meets the physical education requirement. The training shall:\n(a) Be based on the nationally recognized, evidenced -based guidelines for\ncardiopulmonary resuscitation certificatio n published by a national\naccrediting body on heart health;\n(b) Incorporate psychomotor skills training to support cognitive learning; and\n(c) Make students aware of the purpose of an automated external defibrillator and\nits ease and safety of use.\n(3) The training does not have to be provided by a certified instructor or result in\nstudents being certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.\n(4) A school administrator may waive the requirement that a student receive instruction\nunder subsection (2) of this se ction if the student has a disability or is physically\nunable to perform the psychomotor skills component of the instruction required.","path":["KRS Chapter 158"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=54118","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:04Z","sha256":"31d30b184aad3d9ac1f6d0f752f9e31088331db55e0dd10c745984c468592f9f","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-158.301","next":"us-ky/krs-158.303"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
