{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.443","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.443","heading":"Terms of board members -- Meetings -- Selection of administrator for the","body":"center -- Duties of board of directors.\n(1) Each nonstate -government employee member of the board of directors for the\nCenter for School Safety shall serve a term of fou r (4) years or until his or her\nsuccessor is duly qualified. A member may be reappointed, but shall not serve more\nthan two (2) consecutive terms.\n(2) The members who are nonstate -government employees shall be reimbursed for\ntravel, meals, and lodging and expenses relating to official duties of the board from\nfunds appropriated for this purpose.\n(3) The board of directors shall meet a minimum of four (4) times per year. The board\nof directors shall be attached to the Office of the Secretary of the Education  and\nLabor Cabinet for administrative purposes.\n(4) The board of directors shall annually elect a chair and vice chair from the\nmembership. The board may form committees as needed.\n(5) The board of directors shall appoint an executive director for the Cent er for School\nSafety and establish all positions for appointment by the executive director.\n(6) Using a request -for-proposal process, the board of directors shall select a public\nuniversity or a nonprofit education entity to administer the Center for Schoo l Safety\nfor a period of not less than four (4) years unless funds for the center are not\nappropriated or the board determines that the administrator for the center is\nnegligent in carrying out its duties as specified in the request for proposal and\ncontract. The administrator for the center shall be the fiscal agent for the center and:\n(a) Receive funds based on the approved budget by the board of directors and the\nGeneral Assembly's appropriation for the center. The center shall operate\nwithin the fiscal policies of the administrator of the center and in compliance\nwith policies established by the board of directors per the request for proposal\nand contract; and\n(b) Employ the staff of the center who shall have the retirement and employee\nbenefits granted other similar employees of the administrator of the center.\n(7) The board of directors shall annually approve:\n(a) A work plan for the center;\n(b) A budget for the center;\n(c) Operating policies as needed; and\n(d) Recommendations for grants to local school districts and schools to assist in\nthe development of programs and individualized approaches to work with\nviolent, disruptive, or academically at -risk students, and consistent with\nprovisions of KRS 158.445.\n(8) The board of directors shall prepare a biennial budget request to support the Center\nfor School Safety and to provide program funds for local school district grants.\n(9) The board of directors shall additionally:\n(a) Approve a school safety coordinator trai ning program developed by the\nCenter for School Safety in accordance with KRS 158.442;\n(b) Approve a school security risk assessment tool and updates as necessary in\naccordance with KRS 158.4410 to be incorporated by reference within an\nadministrative regulation promulgated in accordance with KRS Chapter 13A;\nand\n(c) Review the organizational structure and operations of the Center for School\nSafety and provide recommendations, as needed, for improvements in its\norganizational and operational performance.\n(10) The board shall collaborate with the department as directed in KRS 158.4418(3), to\ndevelop model interagency agreements between local school districts and other\nlocal public agencies, including but not limited to health departments, departments\nof socia l services, mental health agencies, and courts, in order to provide\ncooperative services and sharing of costs for services to students who are at risk of\nschool failure, are at risk of participation in juvenile crime, or have been expelled\nfrom the school district.","path":["KRS Chapter 158"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=55387","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:05Z","sha256":"7742efd82f8f833535c21ef5d14cb87c4b577634427a86925bd9f1b71e093985","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-158.442","next":"us-ky/krs-158.4431"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
