{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.4433","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.4433","heading":"School Mapping Data Program -- Administration by Kentucky 911","body":"Services Board -- Required capabilities.\n(1) As used in this section, \"school mapping data\" means mapping information\nprovided in an electronic or a digital format to assist first  responders in responding\nto emergencies at schools.\n(2) (a) The General Assembly does hereby establish the School Mapping Data\nProgram to be administered by the Kentucky 911 Services Board. The\nKentucky 911 Services Board shall utilize available funds to  develop school\nmapping data for each public school, public charter school, and any private\nschool that requests to participate in the program. The program shall be\nadministered by the Kentucky 911 Services Board pursuant to this section,\nwhich may include contracting for services pursuant to the relevant provisions\nof the Kentucky Model Procurement Code in KRS Chapter 45A. The\nKentucky 911 Services Board shall be responsible for ensuring that all funds\nreceived for and expended related to the School Mappin g Data Program are\nutilized for the purposes of school mapping.\n(b) The Kentucky 911 Services Board shall provide the data developed by the\nprogram to the state school security marshal, participating schools,\nparticipating districts, and local law enforcem ent and public safety agencies\nfor use in response to emergencies and for conducting drills required under\nKRS 158.162(5). The school mapping data shall be excluded from the\napplication of KRS 61.870 to 61.884.\n(c) The Kentucky 911 Services Board shall app ly for any federal grant funds that\nmay be used to accomplish the purposes of the program. The Kentucky 911\nServices Board may also solicit private funds to support the program.\n(3) The School Mapping Data Program shall establish a single verified source o f\nmapping data for each participating school campus in the state that is standardized,\naccurate, and accessible to public safety agencies to ensure efficient response to any\nemergency on a school campus. The school mapping data provided shall:\n(a) Be comp atible with software platforms used by local, county, state, and\nfederal public safety agencies that provide emergency services to the specific\nschool for which the data is provided without requiring such agencies to\npurchase additional software or requiring a fee to view or access the data;\n(b) Be compatible with security software platforms in use by the participating\nschool or district for which the data is provided without requiring the school\nor district to purchase additional software or requiring a fe e to view or access\nthe data;\n(c) Be in a printable format and, if requested by a law enforcement or public\nsafety agency or participating school or district in addition to those described\nin paragraph (a) of this subsection, be in a digital file format th at can be\nintegrated into interactive mobile platforms in use;\n(d) Be verified by the Kentucky 911 Services Board, or any entity contracted by\nthe Kentucky 911 Services Board to develop the mapping data pursuant to this\nsection for accuracy by a walk-through of school buildings and grounds;\n(e) Be oriented to true north;\n(f) Include accurate floor plans overlaid on current, verified aerial imagery of\ncampus;\n(g) Contain site -specific labeling that matches the structure of school buildings\nthat includes:\n1. Room labels;\n2. Hallway names or identifiers;\n3. External door or stairwell numbers;\n4. Locations of hazards;\n5. Critical utility locations;\n6. Key boxes;\n7. Automated external defibrillators; and\n8. Trauma kits;\n(h) Contain site-specific labeling that matches the school grounds that includes:\n1. Parking areas;\n2. Athletic fields;\n3. Surrounding roads; and\n4. Neighboring properties;\n(i) Be overlaid with a gridded coordinate system;\n(j) Not be modified or updated independently without corresponding updates to\nschool mapping data within software platforms used by local, cou nty, state,\nand federal public safety agencies that provide emergency services to the\nspecific school; and\n(k) Provide to public safety agencies and participating schools or districts the\nschool mapping data developed pursuant to the program perpetually an d at no\ncost to the public safety agencies or participating schools or districts.\n(4) A participating school district or campus shall not be required to adopt new school\nmapping data if, as of July 1, 2024, the school district or campus previously\nimplemented school mapping data with capabilities that meet the requirements of\nsubsection (3)(a) to (k) of this section.","path":["KRS Chapter 158"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=56981","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:05Z","sha256":"88bf5a44f9685221e9e83241a88d16502fa7284ebf5515501713c6c15c345a41","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-158.4431","next":"us-ky/krs-158.444"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
