{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.481","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.481","heading":"Authority of local board to regulate traffic and parking -- Fees --","body":"Violations.\n(1) Each board of education of a local school district, having the power and authority to\ngovern and control the method and purpose of use of property owned or oc cupied\nby its respective local school district, including travel over that property, is hereby\nconfirmed in its authority to regulate the traffic and parking of motor vehicles,\nbicycles, or other vehicles as well as the traffic of pedestrians on, over, and  across\nthe streets, roads, paths, and grounds of real property owned, used, or occupied by\nthe local school district. The regulations applicable to traffic and parking may\ninclude but are not limited to the following provisions:\n(a) Provisions governing t he registration, speed, operation, parking and times,\nplaces, and manner of use of motor vehicles, bicycles, and other vehicles;\n(b) Provisions prescribing penalties for the violation of those regulations, which\npenalties may include the imposition of reas onable charges, the removing and\nimpounding, at the expense of the violator, of vehicles which are operated or\nparked in violation of the regulations, and the denial of permission to operate\nvehicles on the property of the local school district; and\n(c) Provisions establishing reasonable charges and fees for the registration of\nvehicles and for the use of parking spaces or facilities owned or occupied by\nthe local school district. Provided, however, that nothing in this section shall\nbe deemed to limit or r estrict the powers of any other governmental authority\nhaving jurisdiction over public streets, roads, alleys, or ways.\n(2) Motor vehicle moving violations of regulations issued under this section shall be\ndeemed violations of the appropriate equivalent se ctions of the motor vehicle laws\nof the Commonwealth and may be prosecuted in the courts having territorial\njurisdiction over the physical location of the offense.","path":["KRS Chapter 158"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=53041","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:05Z","sha256":"105576004552b60964d4fc7e3546407dc43916a836fdea2cac4b01eb05584f4b","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-158.479","next":"us-ky/krs-158.483"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
