{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.622","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.622","heading":"Administrative regulations of Kentucky Board of Education relating to","body":"advanced placement courses -- Duties of Department of Education relating to\nadvanced placement and dual enrollment programs -- Credit for Virtual High\nSchool and advanced placement courses.\n(1) The Kentucky Board of Education shall promulgate administrative regulations\nestablishing the criteria a school shall meet in order to designate a course an\nadvanced placement course, including content and program standards concerning\nstudent admission criteria, data collection, and reporting.\n(2) Upon receipt of adequate federal funding for these purposes, the Department of\nEducation shall:\n(a) Expand advanced placement teacher training institutes, including offering\nadvanced placement teacher training instruction and assistance through the\nKentucky Virtual High School or in conjunction with the Council on\nPostsecondary Education through the Kentucky Virtual University;\n(b) Require teachers who are planning to participate in advanced placement\nteacher training and complete advanced placement training at advanced\nplacement institutes facilitated by the department to sign an agreement to\nteach at least one (1) advanced placement course in a Kentucky public school\nor the Kentucky Virtual High School when assigned by the school principal;\n(c) Develop the Kentucky Virtual Advanced Placement Academy which shall\noffer school districts and their students access to a core advanced placement\ncurriculum through the Kentucky Virtual High School;\n(d) Identify, in conjunction with the Council on Postsecondary Education,\nresources at the secondary and postsecondary levels that can be directed\ntoward advanced placement or dual enrollment instruction;\n(e) Compare the costs of offering advanced placement courses thr ough traditional\non-site instruction, the Kentucky Virtual High School, and other methods and\nshall offer each school district assistance, if requested, in analyzing how the\nschool district can most cost -effectively offer the largest number of advanced\nplacement courses;\n(f) Identify current and future funding sources for advanced placement or dual\nenrollment instructional programs and the amount of funds available or\nanticipated from those sources; and\n(g) Submit a report to the Kentucky General Assembly o utlining compliance with\nthis section.\n(3) Each school district shall:\n(a) Accept for credit toward graduation any course a student successfully\ncompletes through the Kentucky Virtual High School and incorporate the\ngrade the student receives in a Kentucky  Virtual High School course in\ncalculating that student's grade point average without distinction between the\ngrade received in the Kentucky Virtual High School course and courses taught\nwithin the school district for which the student receives a grade;\n(b) Accept for credit toward graduation and completion of high school course\nrequirements an advanced placement, a high school equivalent, or a Kentucky\nVirtual High School course taken by a student in grades 5, 6, 7, or 8 if that\nstudent attains performance  levels expected of high school students in that\ndistrict as determined by achieving a score of \"3\" or higher on a College\nBoard Advanced Placement examination or a grade of \"B\" or better in a high\nschool equivalent or a Kentucky Virtual High School course; and\n(c) Pay tuition and other costs for students from their districts who are enrolled in\na Kentucky Virtual High School course for credit that is part of the student's\nregular school day coursework by proportionately sharing funds generated\nunder KRS 157.360 or other funding sources.","path":["KRS Chapter 158"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=3545","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:05Z","sha256":"9b22852f55e5a207f085da0f514a523c589158a082d51811a38a042a11094927","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-158.620","next":"us-ky/krs-158.625"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
