{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.6451","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.6451","heading":"Legislative declaration on goals for Commonwealth's schools -- Model","body":"curriculum framework.\n(1) The General Assembly finds, declares, and establishes that:\n(a) Schools shall expect a high level of academic achievement of all students;\n(b) Schools shall develop their students' ability to:\n1. Use communication and mathematics skills for purposes and situations\nthey will encounter throughout their lives;\n2. Apply core concepts and principles from mathematics, the sciences, the\narts, the humanities, social studies, civics, and practical living studies to\nsituations they will encounter throughout their lives;\n3. Become self -sufficient individuals of good character exhibiting the\nqualities of altruism, citizenship, courtesy, hard work, honesty, human\nworth, justice, knowledge, patriotism, respect, responsibility, and self -\ndiscipline;\n4. Become responsible members of a family, work group, or community,\nincluding demonstrating effectiveness in community service;\n5. Think critically, creatively, and inde pendently to solve problems in\nschool situations and in a variety of situations they will encounter in life;\n6. Connect and integrate experiences and new knowledge from all subject\nmatter fields with what they have previously learned and build on past\nlearning experiences to acquire new information through various media\nsources; and\n7. Express their creative talents  and interests in visual arts, music, dance,\nand dramatic arts;\n(c) Schools shall increase their students' rate of school attendance;\n(d) Schools shall increase their students' graduation rates and reduce their\nstudents' dropout and retention rates;\n(e) Schools shall reduce physical and mental health barriers to learning; and\n(f) Schools shall be measured on the proportion of students who make a\nsuccessful transition to work, post-secondary education, and military service.\n(2) The Kentucky Board of Educatio n shall disseminate to local school districts and\nschools a model curriculum framework which is directly tied to the goals,\noutcomes, and assessment strategies developed pursuant to this section and KRS\n158.645 and 158.6453. The framework shall provide dir ection to local districts and\nschools as they develop their curriculum. The framework shall identify teaching and\nassessment strategies, instructional material resources, ideas on how to incorporate\nthe resources of the community, a directory of model teac hing sites, alternative\nways of using school time, and strategies to incorporate character education\nthroughout the curriculum.","path":["KRS Chapter 158"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=56268","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:05Z","sha256":"bedd8f8ad59ca2ce4a6ea37fb55ea117301bd6a262b0fae0603a7d662cf8d4ab","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-158.6450","next":"us-ky/krs-158.6452"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
