{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.770","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.770","heading":"Advisory committee on writing program.","body":"An advisory committee on writing shall be created by the Kentucky Board of Education\nto make recommendations to the board regarding the establishment of an intensive\nwriting component in the state program of studies for grades seven (7) through ten (10)\nand the establishment of innovative pilot writing programs in selected local school\ndistricts in grades seven (7) through ten (10).\n(1) The advisory committee shall be composed of nine (9) members appointed by the\nKentucky Board of Education. The majority of  the membership shall be educators\ncurrently employed by local school districts or public universities.\n(2) (a) On July 13, 1990, the terms of the current members of the advisory committee\nshall expire and the Kentucky Board of Education shall appoint memb ers as\nfollows: three (3) members shall serve two (2) year terms, three (3) members\nshall serve three (3) year terms, and three (3) members shall serve four (4)\nyear terms.\n(b) As the terms described in subsection (a) of this section expire, members\nappointed thereafter shall serve four (4) year terms.\n(3) All operating expenses of the committee shall be approved by the Kentucky Board\nof Education and paid from funds budgeted to the writing programs. Members shall\nbe reimbursed for actual expenses for atten dance at committee meetings and for\nother actual expenses incurred in carrying out their official duties.\n(4) The functions of the committee shall be as follows:\n(a) Analyze the program of studies of grades seven (7) through ten (10) and make\nrecommendations to the Kentucky Board of Education on the options for\nincluding an intensive writing program;\n(b) Make recommendations to the Kentucky Board of Education on methods of\nintegrating writing into the curriculum in grades seven (7) through ten (10);\n(c) Make recommendations to the Kentucky Board of Education relative to the\ndevelopment of teacher training programs and workshops designed to\nfacilitate the effective teaching of writing;\n(d) Develop and recommend to the Kentucky Board of Education criteria f or\nlocal district participation in the pilot program;\n(e) Develop a monitoring and ongoing evaluation system; and\n(f) Recommend to the Kentucky Board of Education a grant allotment system to\naward funds to eligible districts.","path":["KRS Chapter 158"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=3582","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:06Z","sha256":"7d7faf949ce33999344defc8b132f612dc8d87e66e685656bb87993d936737e5","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-158.7603","next":"us-ky/krs-158.775"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
