{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.798","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.798","heading":"Program to encourage studies in mathematics, science, and related","body":"technologies -- Role of Kentucky Science and Technology Council, Inc.\n(1) It is the intention of the General Assembly to generate a substantial increase in the\nnumber of mathematicians,  scientists, and engineers in the Kentucky workforce in\norder to foster economic growth in the business sector and to provide high quality\njobs for Kentuckians. A program shall be established to encourage studies in math,\nscience, and related technologies,  beginning with middle school and continuing\nthrough advanced college level work, leading to sustained job placements in\nKentucky's technological and innovative businesses and industries. Principal\nactivities for developing, coordinating, and implementing this program shall be\nconducted by the Kentucky Science and Technology Council, Inc., a private,\nnonprofit corporation comprised of leaders from education, government, and the\nprivate sector.\n(2) The Kentucky Science and Technology Council, Inc., may solic it, accept, receive,\ninvest, and expend funds from any public or private source for the purpose of\nimplementing the provisions in this section.\n(3) The Kentucky Science and Technology Council, Inc., shall coordinate, promote, and\nsupport activities designed to:\n(a) Recognize Kentucky middle school students with a high interest, aptitude, or\nachievement in math, science, and technology related courses, events, and\nactivities; and\n(b) Develop additional learning experiences outside the traditional classroom\ncourses, to enhance interest in math and science for middle and high school\nstudents, including summer and weekend institutes, skills, application in real\nworld situations, business and industry internships and mentorships, and\ncareer awareness exploration.\n(c) Solicit program support, cooperation, and funds from private businesses,\nindustries, and government entities with an interest and need for technological\ninnovation;\n(d) Develop a college -level academic scholarship program for students in math,\nscience, engineering, and other technology related disciplines, soliciting\ncontributions from private businesses and industries;\n(e) Develop internship and post -degree placement commitment plans for\nindustries and those students participating in internships or re ceiving\nscholarships; and\n(f) Submit an annual report to the Governor and the Legislative Research\nCommission concerning:\n1. Activities related to achieving the program's objectives for the preceding\nyear;\n2. Factual information about Kentucky students' pr ogress in math, science,\nand related technologies and business and industries' changing\ntechnological needs; and\n3.
