{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.7991","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.7991","heading":"Legislative findings and declarations.","body":"(1) (a) The General Assembly finds and declares that the integration of the arts and\nforeign languages into the school curriculum benefits students by increasing\ntheir motivation to learn; improves attendance; fosters multicultural\nunderstanding; and develops neur ological cognitive potential through higher -\norder thinking skills, creativity, and problem solving. Further, the General\nAssembly finds and declares that arts and foreign language education can\nrenew and invigorate faculty and can foster greater parent and  community\nparticipation and support.\n(b) The General Assembly notes that it created a system of public education that\nallows and assists all students to acquire certain capacities provided under\nKRS 158.645, including communication skills necessary to fun ction in a\ncomplex and changing civilization and sufficient grounding in the arts to\nenable each student to appreciate his or her cultural and historical heritage.\n(c) The General Assembly further notes that its goals for public schools under\nKRS 158.6451 include: to develop students' abilities to use basic\ncommunication and mathematics skills for purposes and situations they will\nencounter throughout their lives; to apply core concepts and principles from\nmathematics, the sciences, the arts, the humanities , and social studies; and to\nconnect and integrate experiences and new knowledge from all subject matter\nfields with what they have previously learned and build on past learning\nexperiences to acquire new information through various sources.\n(2) It is the intent of the General Assembly in enacting KRS 158.7992 to address the\nfindings and declarations set out in subsection (1) of this section.","path":["KRS Chapter 158"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=3596","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:06Z","sha256":"93a68c6ad525a58a3e15ac02d75baa1fce24cf89579e0a4488ad319e6bf7dcb6","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-158.799","next":"us-ky/krs-158.7992"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
