{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.7992","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.7992","heading":"Program to promote instruction in the arts and foreign languages.","body":"(1) The Department of Education shall establish a program that promotes the\nintegration of the arts and foreign languages in the elementary school program. A\nschool shall submit an application through the district superintendent, with the\nagreement of the school council or of the principal, if a council does not exist. The\ndepartment shall award a grant to at least one (1) school per region based on the\nquality of the application in meeting the criteria established in subsection (2) of this\nsection. Special con sideration shall be given, but not limited to, a school that does\nnot have an existing comprehensive arts and foreign language program.\n(2) School programs under subsection (1) of this section shall include, but not be\nlimited to, the following components:\n(a) Instruction in each of the four (4) disciplines of dance, drama, music, and the\nvisual arts that includes the core content skills and knowledge taught in a\nsequential manner and includes all students in the elementary school;\n(b) Intense instruction in at least one (1) foreign language that includes skills and\nknowledge related to communicative language and culture and includes all\nstudents in the elementary school;\n(c) Integration of arts and foreign language instruction across the curriculum;\n(d) Coordination of the programs by teachers with appropriate arts and foreign\nlanguage certification;\n(e) Professional development for teachers and administrators designed to\nfacilitate the effective teaching of arts and foreign languages;\n(f) An effective monit oring and evaluation system that includes student\nperformance assessment;\n(g) Partnerships with parents, local cultural agencies, individual artists, and native\nspeakers of the foreign language who work in collaboration with classroom\nteachers;\n(h) Support from the local school board, the school council, and teachers; and\n(i) Student attendance at one (1) or more live performance or visual art exhibition\neach school year.\n(3) The Department of Education shall report annually by July 1 of each year on the\nimplementation of the program to the Governor and the Legislative Research\nCommission.","path":["KRS Chapter 158"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=3597","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:06Z","sha256":"c393d52f6c2223b35854b940a2eb6b341e8606970d593cefa64a33327a67eb33","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-158.7991","next":"us-ky/krs-158.800"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
