{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.810","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.810","heading":"Definitions for KRS 158.810 to 158.816.","body":"For purposes of KRS 158.810 to 158.816:\n(1) \"Advanced manufacturing\" means manufacturing that uses technology and\nknowledge-based processes that leverage human, intellectual, and financial capital\nto create globally competitive products;\n(2) \"At-risk\" mean s a student who is academically unprepared, has inadequate\nacademic preparation for the next educational level, or who is in danger of dropping\nout of school;\n(3) \"Career academy\" means a small learning community within a larger high school\nthat:\n(a) Consists of a heterogeneous group of students taking classes together for at\nleast two (2) years who are taught by a team of teachers from different\ndisciplines;\n(b) Provides a college -preparatory academic curriculum based on a career theme\nthat helps students see relationships and connections between academic\nsubjects and their applications in specific career pathways and in broad career\nareas such as health science, business, pre -engineering, agribusiness, and\nadvanced manufacturing; and\n(c) Provides opportunities through partnerships with employers, colleges, and the\ncommunity for students to engage in internships and work-based learning with\nadult mentors to motivate students to achieve;\n(4) \"Career and technical education\" means a program of study that leads  to the\ndevelopment of academic and specialized occupational skills in career fields;\n(5) \"Career guidance coach\" means a counselor who is assigned one hundred percent\n(100%) of his or her time to:\n(a) The development of students', teachers', and parents' understanding of broad\ncareer themes and opportunities through career pathways;\n(b) Academic advising and career counseling;\n(c) Assisting students in the development of individual learning plans; and\n(d) Providing assistance to other teachers;\n(6) \"Career pathway\" means a coherent, articulated sequence of rigorous academic and\ncareer-related courses, commencing in ninth grade and leading to an associate\ndegree, an industry -recognized certificate or license, or a baccalaureate or higher\ndegree. A career pathway is developed, implemented, and maintained in partnership\namong secondary and postsecondary education institutions, businesses, and\nemployers. Career pathways are available to all students, including adult learners,\nand are designed to lead to rewarding careers;\n(7) \"Career pathway program of study\" means a coherent, articulated sequence of\nrigorous academic and career and technical education courses, including dual credit\nopportunities, that prepar es secondary students for postsecondary study leading to\npostsecondary degrees, industry certifications, or licensure;\n(8) \"Evidence-based instructional model\" or \"evidence -based model\" means the\napplication of valid and relevant knowledge to education act ivities and programs,\nwhich are based on the findings from systematic and empirical methods including\nobservations, experiments, and rigorous data analyses;\n(9) \"Industry certification\" means certification that is awarded to a student who has\npassed a stan dardized, valid, industry -based examination that measures the\nknowledge and skills recognized nationally by employers or by an industry group or\nassociation within Kentucky as representing the level of proficiency that is needed\nto enter a specific field;\n(10) \"Technical literacy\" means a student's ability to read and comprehend the language\nof a field of study, understand the major technical concepts of that field, and apply\nthe appropriate mathematics concepts to typical problems encountered in the\nworkplace;\n(11) \"Secondary area technology center\" or \"secondary area center\" means a school\nfacility dedicated to the primary purpose of offering five (5) or more technical\npreparation programs that lead to skill development focused on specific\noccupational areas. An area center may be called a \"magnet technology center\" or\n\"career center\" or may be assigned another working title by the parent agency.
