{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.812","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.812","heading":"Legislative intent, findings, and declarations.","body":"(1) It is the intent of the General Assembly to provide rigorous academic and career and\ntechnical education programs that are relevant for all students and that encourage at-\nrisk students to graduate from high school prepared to enter postsecondary\neducation institutions or the workforce with needed skills.\n(2) The purposes of elementary and secondary education programs of career and\ntechnical education are to:\n(a) Provide students opportunities to understand the relevance of and master\nacademic skills in math ematics, science, English, reading, and\ncommunications as well as technical literacy in broad-based career fields;\n(b) Provide students a variety of opportunities to master the usage of technology;\n(c) Prepare individuals with specialized, transferable aca demic skills and\ntechnical skills for gainful employment in broad-based career fields; and\n(d) Assist individuals in making successful transitions from school to work, to\npostsecondary education, to the military, or from one (1) career to another.\n(3) The General Assembly acknowledges that:\n(a) Rigorous, relevant, and high -quality career and technical education offers\nstudents an opportunity to develop skills in mathematics, science, English,\nreading, communication, problem -solving, and technology, and in c areer and\ntechnical areas that are essential to meet the goals for Kentucky education as\ndescribed in KRS 158.6451 and that help students achieve the capacities\nrequired of all students as defined in KRS 158.645;\n(b) Students need access to career pathway programs that meet high standards,\nconnect technical skills with core academic requirements for high school\nstudents, and align with postsecondary education requirements and business\nand industry needs;\n(c) Students can accelerate their overall scholastic achievement when given an\nopportunity to learn in an integrated school- and work-based environment;\n(d) Students are less likely to drop out of school when they are making academic\nprogress and see relevance in the program of study to their future potentia l for\nsuccess; and\n(e) The General Assembly has a responsibility to provide the resources that\nrecognize the increased costs for offering high -quality, relevant career and\ntechnical education programs.","path":["KRS Chapter 158"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=40070","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:06Z","sha256":"d78ac53ad28767fcb0d2d7e8c6d872908ace1cabe3ac94d2b963ab1a81b7f97e","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-158.810","next":"us-ky/krs-158.814"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
