{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.847","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.847","heading":"Science and mathematics advancement fund -- Purposes -- Administrative","body":"regulations.\n(1) (a) The science and mathematics advancement fund is hereby created to provide\nincentives for public schools to provide or expand student access to rigorous\nscience and mathematics curricula, to make available advanced science and\nmathematics courses and college credit in these disciplines for high school\nstudents, and to increase the quantity and quality of science and mathematics\nteachers in Kentucky.\n(b) Funds may be used in support of public schools to provide:\n1. Payment of student fees for AP and IB examinations;\n2. Scholarships for high school students to take advanced science and\nmathematics courses through the Kentucky Virtual High School when\nthose courses are not offered at the school in which they are enrolled;\n3. Two (2) year grants to high schools to support the start -up of advanced\nscience and mathematics courses;\n4. Two (2) year renewable grants to middle schools to support accelerated\nstudent learning in science and mathematics;\n5. Grants to school districts for programs to develop and implement an\nenergy technology engineering career track; and\n6. Professional development opportunities, and payment of expenses and\nstipends for participation, for elemen tary school teachers to deepen their\ncontent knowledge and improve instructional practice in science and\nmathematics.\n(c) The fund may receive state appropriations, grants, gifts, federal funds, or any\nother funds, public or private.\n(d) Funds from the sci ence and mathematics advancement fund shall be\ndistributed after all other funds available for these purposes have been\nobligated, including state funds, federal funds, or any funds available through\na scholarship program administered by the Kentucky Highe r Education\nAssistance Authority.\n(2) The Kentucky Board of Education shall promulgate administrative regulations for\nthe administration of the science and mathematics advancement fund.
