{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-158.849","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 158.849","heading":"Long -term statewide goals concerning STEM disciplines and AP and IB","body":"course participation.\n(1) The Kentucky Board of Education shall establish long -term and annual statewide\ngoals for increasing:\n(a) The number of high schools providing rigoro us curricula and making\navailable accelerated classes and college credit for students;\n(b) The number and percentage of students enrolled in and completing AP and IB\ncourses by content area;\n(c) The number and percentage of students taking the AP and IB ex aminations in\nadvanced science and mathematics;\n(d) The number and percentage of students receiving a score of three (3) or better\non the AP examinations or four (4) or better on IB examinations in advanced\nscience and mathematics;\n(e) The number and percentage of students whose families are eligible for free or\nreduced-price lunch receiving a score of three (3) or better on AP\nexaminations or four (4) or better on IB examinations;\n(f) The number and percentage of students in underrepresented groups, includ ing\nfemales, minorities, students with disabilities, English language learners, and\nstudents whose families are eligible for free or reduced -price lunch, taking\ncomputer science courses as defined by the Kentucky Department of\nEducation in middle school an d high school, including career and technical\neducation programs;\n(g) The number of teachers successfully completing a College Board -endorsed\nAP or IB summer training institute;\n(h) The number of teachers with the knowledge and training needed to prepare\nstudents for high achievement on AP and IB examinations in advanced\nscience and mathematics; and\n(i) Other criteria determined by the board.\n(2) (a) The Kentucky Department of Education shall develop a program evaluation\nframework regarding the use of the s cience and mathematics advancement\nfund for the purposes set forth in KRS 158.847. The program evaluation\nframework shall address areas including but not limited to the use of funds,\nthe number of grants and awards, student achievement outcomes, and trends\nover time on the indicators established to measure progress against the\nstatewide goals under subsection (1) of this section.\n(b) Beginning in 2008, the department shall submit an annual report no later than\nDecember 1 to the Kentucky Board of Education a nd the Interim Joint\nCommittee on Education. The report for 2008 shall provide a status report on\nthe implementation of programs supported by the science and mathematics\nadvancement fund. Subsequent reports shall incorporate information collected\nand analyzed based on the program evaluation framework under paragraph (a)\nof this subsection.\n(c) Beginning in 2020, the department shall submit an annual report no later than\nDecember 1 to the Kentucky Board of Education and the Interim  Joint\nCommittee on Education that includes an unduplicated count of the number\nand percentage of public school students participating in computer science\ncourses and other computer science educational opportunities. The data shall\nbe disaggregated by gend er, race, disability, English proficiency, and\nparticipation in the federal free and reduced -price lunch program. The report\nshall also include the number of computer science courses or programs offered\nin each school, the nature of the computer science co urses or programs, the\nnumber of advanced placement computer science classes offered, and the\nnumber of computer science instructors at each school disaggregated by\ncertification, gender, and terminal degree.","path":["KRS Chapter 158"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=50218","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:06Z","sha256":"51cb59367f6d4e4b44e26cc27e761cd1e2b0f2c30a6a0b9b6b3d2a9818cb9a93","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-158.848","next":"us-ky/krs-158.850"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
