{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-15a.075","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 15A.075","heading":"Criminal Justice Council -- Membership  -- Duties -- Administrative","body":"support.\n(1) The  Criminal Justice Council is hereby created within the Justice and Public\nSafety Cabinet.\n(2) The  council shall undertake such research and other activities as may  be\nauthorized or directed by:\n(a) The secretary of the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet; or\n(b) The General Assembly.\n(3) The membership of the council shall consist of:\n(a) The secretary of the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, ex officio;\n(b) The Attorney General or his or her designee;\n(c) The  chair of the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives,\nnonvoting ex officio;\n(d) The chair of the Judiciary Committee of the Senate, nonvoting ex officio;\n(e) The director of the Administrative Office of the Courts, ex officio;\n(f) The public advocate, ex officio;\n(g) The  president of the Kentucky Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers\nor his or her designee;\n(h) The  commissioner  of  the  Department  for  Behavioral Health,\nDevelopmental and Intellectual Disabilities, ex officio;\n(i) The  commissioner of the Department of Kentucky State Police or his or\nher designee;\n(j) The commissioner of the Department of Corrections, ex officio;\n(k) The commissioner of the Department of Juvenile Justice, ex officio; and\n(l) Six (6) at-large members  appointed by the Governor, as follows:\n1. One  (1) District Judge and one (1) Circuit Judge nominated by the\nChief Justice of the Kentucky Supreme Court;\n2. One  (1) member  representing law enforcement;\n3. One  (1) member  of the County Attorneys' Association;\n4. One  (1) member  of the Commonwealth  Attorneys' Association; and\n5. One  (1) member  representing community-based organizations, whether\nfor-profit or nonprofit, with experience in programs such as substance\nabuse  prevention and treatment, case management,  mental health, or\ncounseling.\n(4) The  chairs of the House  and Senate Judiciary Committees shall serve as\nco-chairs.\n(5) At-large members  shall be appointed by August 1, 2017, and shall serve a\nterm of two (2) years, and may be reappointed.\n(6) Each  ex officio member,  except for legislative members,  may  designate a\nproxy by written notice to the council prior to call of order of each meeting, and\nthe proxy shall be entitled to participate as a full voting member.\n(7) Each  member  of the council shall have one (1) vote. Members  of the council\nshall serve without compensation but shall be reimbursed for their expenses\nactually and necessarily incurred in the performance of their duties. The council\nshall meet at least quarterly. Meetings shall be held at the call of the chair, or\nupon the written request of two (2) members  to the chair.\n(8) A simple majority of the members  of the council shall constitute a quorum for\nthe conduct of business at a meeting.\n(9) The  council is authorized to establish committees and appoint additional\npersons who may not be members  of the council, as necessary to effectuate its\npurposes.\n(10) The  council's administrative functions shall be performed by the executive\ndirector of the Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Services, appointed\nby the secretary of the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet and supported by the\nadministrative, clerical, and other staff as allowed by budgetary limitations and\nas needed to fulfill the council's role and mission and to coordinate its activities.","path":["KRS Chapter 15A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=46853","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:35Z","sha256":"152bf335fb1c2f045489b140368eb5abf72fce162a00156a3769c473128b49ec","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-15a.072","next":"us-ky/krs-15a.080"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
