{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-16.186","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 16.186","heading":"Definitions for KRS 16.186 to 16.195.","body":"As used in KRS 16.186 to 16.195, unless the context requires otherwise:\n(1) \"Cabinet\" means the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet;\n(2) \"Secretary\" means the secretary of the cabinet;\n(3) \"Commissioner\" means the commissioner of the Department of Kentucky S tate\nPolice;\n(4) \"Officer\" means any individual appointed to one (1) of the positions established by\nKRS 16.187 who has the powers of a peace officer;\n(5) \"Department\" means the Department of Kentucky State Police; and\n(6) \"Continuous service\" for participation in and eligibility for the promotional process\nfor each rank of commercial vehicle enforcement officer means:\n(a) For sergeant, service as a commissioned officer that has not been interrupted\nby actual separation from the department, whether in the f orm of resignation,\nretirement, or termination;\n(b) For lieutenant, service in grade as a sergeant that has not been interrupted by\nactual separation from the department, whether in the form of resignation,\nretirement, termination, or by demotion in accordance with KRS 16.192; and\n(c) For captain, service in grade as a lieutenant that has not been interrupted by\nactual separation from the department, whether in the form of resignation,\nretirement, termination, or by demotion in accordance with KRS 16.192.","path":["KRS Chapter 16"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=1114","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:36Z","sha256":"acf22ff3771ab2eea554c15ba7a879f019203004357d0520130750e181679cec","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-16.185","next":"us-ky/krs-16.187"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
