{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-16.1901","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 16.1901","heading":"Minimum requirements for positions created under KRS 16.187.","body":"(1) At the time of appointment by the department or the secretary, officers shall meet\nthe minimum requirements established by this subsection:\n(a) Commercial vehicle enforcement officers shall:\n1. Meet at least one (1) of the following education or experience\nrequirements:\na. Have completed at least fifty -four (54) semester hours with a\ncollege or university;\nb. Possess at least two (2) years experience as a commercial vehicle\ninspector under the North American Standard Requirements;\nc. Possess at least two (2 ) years experience as a full -time sworn law\nenforcement officer; or\nd. Possess at least two (2) years experience in military duty;\n2. Be of good moral character and capable of successfully meeting the\nphysical fitness standards established by the commissioner; and\n3. Meet the minimum qualifications for becoming a certified peace officer\nas provided by KRS 15.382;\n(b) Arson investigator officers shall:\n1. Possess at least one (1) year of law enforcement, police, criminal, fire, or\narson investigation experience; and\n2. Meet the minimum qualifications for becoming a certified peace officer\nas provided by KRS 15.382;\n(c) Hazardous devices investigator officers shall:\n1. Possess at least five (5) years of experience involving explosives or\nhazardous devices used in the areas of law enforcement, the military, or\nfirefighting; and\n2. Meet the minimum qualifications for becoming a certified peace officer\nas provided by KRS 15.382;\n(d) Facilities security officers shall be commissioned as special law enforcement\nofficers under KRS 61.900 to 61.930; and\n(e) Legislative security specialists shall:\n1. Possess at least five (5) years of experience as a full -time sworn law\nenforcement officer; and\n2. Meet the minimum qualifications for a certified peace officer as\nprovided in KRS 15.382.\n(2) Upon completion of a probationary period of one (1) year:\n(a) Commercial vehicle enforcement officers, arson investigator officers,\nhazardous de vices investigator officers, and legislative security specialists\nshall have successfully completed the Peace Officer Professional Standards\n(POPS) certification process through the Kentucky State Police Academy or\nthrough the Department of Criminal Justice Training; and\n(b) Commercial vehicle enforcement officers shall successfully complete and pass\na certified course in General Hazardous Materials and North American\nStandard Driver/Vehicle Inspection.","path":["KRS Chapter 16"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=44925","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:36Z","sha256":"ba89f186014c138989e33eabbab2d842f2319a3864d6b3eec538d0976f969775","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-16.190","next":"us-ky/krs-16.191"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
