{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-16.543","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 16.543","heading":"Determination of service credit -- Picked-up employee contributions --","body":"Service earned while on leave -- Refund.\n(1) Employee  contributions shall be deducted from the creditable compensation of\neach  member  of the retirement system in the active employment  of the\nDepartment of Kentucky State Police of the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet\nas  an officer as defined in KRS  16.520. After August 1, 1982, employee\ncontributions shall be picked up by the employer pursuant to KRS  16.545(4).\nService credit shall be  allowed for each  month  such member  receives\ncreditable compensation for an average of one hundred (100) hours or more of\nwork  per month. If the average number of hours of work is less than one\nhundred (100) per month, the member  shall be allowed credit only for those\nmonths  he or she receives creditable compensation for one hundred (100)\nhours of work.\n(2) Contributions shall not be made  and no service will be earned while on\nauthorized leave except:\n(a) A  member  shall be entitled to service credit in accordance with KRS\n61.552; and\n(b) A  member  on educational leave, approved by the Personnel Cabinet,\nwho  is receiving seventy-five percent (75%) or more of full salary, shall\nreceive service credit and  shall pay member  contributions or such\ncontributions shall be picked up in accordance with KRS  16.545 and his\nor her employer shall pay employer contributions in accordance with KRS\n61.565. If a tuition agreement is broken by the member, the member  and\nemployer contributions paid or picked up during the period of educational\nleave shall be refunded.\n(3) The retirement office, upon detection, shall refund any erroneous employer and\nemployee  contributions made  to the retirement system and  any interest\ncredited in accordance with KRS 16.560.","path":["KRS Chapter 16"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=50804","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:37Z","sha256":"2338f5edd65afbcc8bcd253b53435490cc6af3c3579600532b583e6c815603bb","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-16.541","next":"us-ky/krs-16.545"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
