{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-160.153","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 160.153","heading":"Purple Star School Program -- Requirements.","body":"(1) As used in this section:\n(a) \"Military-connected student\" means a child enrolled in a Kentucky public\nschool who is a dependent of a current or former member of the Armed\nForces of the United States, the Kentucky National Guard, or any reserve\ncomponent thereof; and\n(b) \"Purple star s chool\" means any public, private, or public charter school\nserving any grades of kindergarten through twelfth grade that has committed\nto supporting the educational and social -emotional needs of military -\nconnected students, as identified by the Kentucky Co mmission on Military\nAffairs.\n(2) The Kentucky Commission on Military Affairs shall establish the Purple Star\nSchool Program and establish an application, review, and designation process for\neligible schools.\n(3) To qualify as a purple star school, the school shall:\n(a) Designate a staff member as a military liaison to serve as the point of contact\nbetween the school and military -connected students and their families, whose\nduties shall include:\n1. Identifying military-connected students enrolled in the school;\n2. Determining appropriate services available to military -connected\nstudents;\n3. Coordinating programs relevant to military-connected students;\n4. Assisting military-connected students in transitioning into or out of the\nschool;\n5. Facilitating optional professional development for staff members on\nissues related to military-connected students;\n6. Completing a Kentucky Commission on Military Affairs purple star\nschool questionnaire to provide feedback for program improvements;\nand\n7. Completing Kentucky purple star school self -paced online training\nevents, including military youth in Kentucky;\n(b) Maintain a web page on the school's website that includes a prominent display\nof the Kentucky purple star logo provided by the Kentucky Commission on\nMilitary Affairs, resources for military -connected students and their families,\nand information regarding:\n1. Relocation, enrollment, registration, and transfer ring records in the\nschool;\n2. Academic planning, course sequences, and advanced classes available;\n3. Counseling and other support services available for military -connected\nstudents enrolled in the school; and\n4. Contact information for the military liais on designated in this\nsubsection;\n(c) Host at least one (1) military recognition event annually that connects the\nschool with the military community; and\n(d) Submit an application for designation as a purple star school with the\nKentucky Commission on Military Affairs.","path":["KRS Chapter 160"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=55537","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:07Z","sha256":"c4145f2492d0d5467a8c64418f3bab330f83294707a587963d717af127448e19","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-160.152","next":"us-ky/krs-160.155"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
