The secretary shall not be a member of the board of education. The\nboard of education of any district may appoint its superintendent as secretary. However, a\nsuperintendent who serves as secretary to the board shall not receive compensation in\naddition to that which he receives for serving as superintendent. The board may fix a\nreasonable salary for the secretary. The secretary shall keep the reco rds of the board and\nperform other duties imposed upon him by the board. All orders of the board must be\nsigned by the secretary and countersigned by the chairman of the board. The secretary\nshall be custodian of all securities, documents, title papers, an d other papers of the board\nunder such conditions as the board may direct.
