{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-160.603","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 160.603","heading":"Notice and hearing before levy.","body":"No local board of education shall levy any of the school taxes authorized by KRS\n160.593 to 160.597, 160.601 to 160.617, and 160.635 to 160.648, except the levy\nrequired by KRS 160.614(3) and (6), until after compliance with the following:\n(1) The local bo ard of education desiring to levy any one (1) of these taxes shall give\nnotice of any proposed levy of one (1) of the school taxes. Notwithstanding any\nstatutory provisions to the contrary, notice shall be given by causing to be\npublished, at least one (1)  time in a newspaper of general circulation published in\nthe county or by posting at the courthouse door if there be no such newspaper, the\nfact that such levy is being proposed. The advertisement shall state that the local\nboard of education will meet at a place and on a day fixed in the advertisement, not\nearlier than one (1) week and not later than two (2) weeks from the date of the\nadvertisement, for the purpose of hearing comments and complaints regarding the\nproposed increase and explaining the reasons for such proposal;\n(2) The local board of education shall conduct a public hearing at the place and on the\ndate advertised for the purpose of hearing comments and complaints regarding the\nproposed levy and explaining the reasons for such proposal; and\n(3) In the event that a combined taxing district desires to levy any one (1) of these\ntaxes, the boards of education shall make a joint advertisement and hold a joint\nhearing in the manner prescribed heretofore for an individual school district.","path":["KRS Chapter 160"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=56961","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:09Z","sha256":"de6a8680bff8e0c2a3287b0c45e3fc28a12568809bc080d5fa2e92a6fdc595f7","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-160.601","next":"us-ky/krs-160.605"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
