{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-161.017","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 161.017","heading":"Education Professional Standards Board to be headed by commissioner of","body":"education -- Duties and powers.\n(1) The administration of the duties of the Education Professional Standards Board,\nestablished in KRS 161.028, shall be headed by the comm issioner of education and\nshall include the following:\n(a) Setting up appropriate organizational structures and personnel policies for\napproval by the board;\n(b) Appointing all staff;\n(c) Preparing annual reports on the board's program of work;\n(d) Carrying out policy and program directives of the board; and\n(e) Performing all other duties and responsibilities assigned by state law.\n(2) With approval of the board, the commissioner of education may enter into\nagreements with any state agency or political sub division of the state, any\npostsecondary education institution, or any other person or entity to enlist assistance\nto implement the duties and responsibilities of the board.\n(3) The commissioner of education shall have access to the papers, books, and reco rds\nof education personnel as part of an inquiry or investigation relating to disciplinary\nactions against a certified employee.\n(4) Pursuant to KRS 161.120, the commissioner of education, on behalf of the board,\nmay issue administrative subpoenas for the attendance of witnesses and the\nproduction of documents relevant to disciplinary cases under consideration.\nCompliance with the subpoenas shall be enforceable by the Circuit Court in\nFranklin County.","path":["KRS Chapter 161"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=50935","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:09Z","sha256":"84b0a8adec88d154009b62aa5afdb5550f0616bdfdeb9379e9cf6045a8328cfe","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-161.011","next":"us-ky/krs-161.020"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
