{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-161.042","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 161.042","heading":"Status of student teachers -- Responsibility to administrative staff and","body":"supervising teachers -- Professional competency requirement for supervising\nteachers.\n(1) The Education Professional Standards Board shall provide through administrative\nregulation for the utilization of the common schools for the preparation of teacher\neducation students from the colleges and universities.\n(2) Within the provisions established by the Education Professional Standards Board,\nlocal boards of education are authorized  to enter into cooperative agreements,\nincluding financial arrangements, with colleges and universities for the purpose of\nproviding professional laboratory experiences and student teaching experiences for\nstudents preparing for the education profession.\n(3) The Education Professional Standards Board shall promulgate administrative\nregulations defining the professional requirements and general duties of a\nsupervising teacher and requirements for a local school district and school to be\nused for this purpose.\n(4) A student teacher who is jointly assigned under agreement by a teacher education\ninstitution and a local board of education shall have the same legal status and\nprotection as a certified teacher employed within the school district and shall be\nresponsible to the administrative staff of the school district and the supervising\nteacher to whom he or she is assigned. All student teachers shall be subject to the\nstate and national criminal records checks required of certified hires under\nprovisions of KRS 160.380.\n(5) Teacher education students, other than student teachers, may be permitted through\ncooperative agreements between the local school district and the teacher education\ninstitution, to engage in supplementary instructional activities with pupils u nder the\ndirection and supervision of the professional administrative and teaching staff of the\nschool district.
