{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-161.102","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 161.102","heading":"Substitute teaching certificates -- Types -- Conditions.","body":"(1) Notwithstanding KRS 161.1211, the Education Professional Standards Board shall\nissue a one (1) year emergency certificate for substitute teaching to any applicant\nwho possesses a mi nimum of a high school diploma or High School Equivalency\nDiploma and has met the requirements to receive the certificate as set forth in\nadministrative regulation promulgated by the Education Professional Standards\nBoard, subject to the provisions of KRS 161.120(1).\n(2) The Education Professional Standards Board shall issue a five (5) year certificate\nfor substitute teaching to any applicant who possesses a bachelor's degree in any\nsubject area from a regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary educa tion\ninstitution.\n(3)  The Education Professional Standards Board shall issue a ten (10) year certificate\nfor substitute teaching to any applicant who:\n(a) Holds a valid statement of eligibility for a Kentucky teaching certificate;\n(b) Previously held a Ke ntucky teaching certificate which required the\ncompletion of a four (4) year teacher preparation program and a bachelor's\ndegree; or\n(c) Currently holds or previously held a valid out -of-state teaching certificate\nwhich required the completion of a four (4 ) year teacher preparation program\nand a bachelor's degree.\n(4) The issuance of a substitute teaching certificate shall be subject to the provisions of\nKRS 161.120(1).\n(5) The one (1) year emergency certificate for substitute teaching authorized in\nsubsection (1) of this section shall not be valid for:\n(a) Full-time employment with a school district as a substitute teacher; or\n(b) The replacement of the teacher of record for more than twenty (20)\nconsecutive instructional days.","path":["KRS Chapter 161"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=55612","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:09Z","sha256":"412f86845e9993948b01b29c13dbed8e0735e8a02d691906a0ac483a46500a23","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-161.100","next":"us-ky/krs-161.110"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
