{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-161.115","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 161.115","heading":"Deletion of certificate, certificate endorsement, or subject specialization","body":"from official certification record at holder's option -- Restoration of deleted\nareas of certification.\nThe holder of any type of Kentucky teacher certification issued by the Education\nProfessional Standards Board may, at the holder's option, have any certificate, certificate\nendorsement, or subject specialization deleted from the official certification record upon\napplication, subject to the following provisions:\n(1) The application shall be submitted to the Education Professional Standards Board\non a form furnished by the board. The form shall include the information required\nby this section and the applicant shall verify the information by affidavit. The\napplication shall be submitted between September 1 and December 1 and shall\nbecome effective on the following July 1. If the requirements of this section are\nsatisfied, the Education Professional Standards Board shall notify the applicant and\nthe applicant's employing school o r school district on or before February 1\nfollowing submission of the application, that the decertification has been approved.\n(2) No portion of the certification shall be deleted for any subject or assignment in\nwhich the teacher has had experience during  the three (3) year period preceding the\nrequest in an amount equivalent to one (1) year of full -time employment (140 days)\nduring which at least one (1) period per day was in the subject or assignment\ncorresponding to the portion of the certification requested for deletion.\n(3) If the certification for classroom teaching at the secondary level is to be retained, at\nleast one (1) teaching major or one (1) area of concentration shall be retained.\n(4) A certificate which is a prerequisite or a concurrent requ irement to the issuance of\nanother certificate or certificate endorsement held by the applicant shall be retained.\n(5) Applications for restoration of areas of certification deleted under this section shall\nbe submitted to the Education Professional Standa rds Board showing restored\ncompetency and proficiency by completion of twelve (12) semester hours of credit\npertinent to the deleted areas as prescribed by an institution approved for teacher\neducation. A transcript or other appropriate verification of com pletion of the twelve\n(12) semester hours of credit from the institution approved for teacher education\nshall be accepted as evidence showing restoration of competency and proficiency in\nthe areas of certification.","path":["KRS Chapter 161"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=3851","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:09Z","sha256":"cab025d880ca2091154c08de13529a7b7760d6f4d57668832199f002c0c33a6e","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-161.110","next":"us-ky/krs-161.120"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
