{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-161.165","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 161.165","heading":"Recruitment of minority teachers.","body":"(1) The Kentucky Department of Education in cooperation with the Education\nProfessional Standards Board, the Kentucky Board of Education, local school\ndistricts, universities, and colleges, and the Council on Postsecondary Education\nshall review and revise as needed the strategic plan for increasing the number of\nminority teachers and administrators in the Commonwealth. The plan shall include,\nbut not be limited to, recommendations on ways to:\n(a) Identify methods for increasing the percentage of minority educa tors in\nproportion to the number of minority students;\n(b) Establish programs to identify, recruit, and prepare as teachers minority\npersons who have already earned college degrees in other job fields;\n(c) Create awareness among secondary school guidance c ounselors of the need\nfor minority teachers.\n(2) The Kentucky Department of Education and the Education Professional Standards\nBoard shall promote programs that increase the percentage of minorities who enter\nand successfully complete a four (4) year teach er preparation program and provide\nsupport to minority students in meeting qualifying requirements for students\nentering a teacher preparation program at institutions of higher education.\n(3) The Kentucky Department of Education with input from the Educati on Professional\nStandards Board shall periodically submit a report to the Interim Joint Committee\non Education that evaluates the results of these efforts and includes accompanying\nrecommendations to establish a continuing program for increasing the number  of\nminorities in teacher education.","path":["KRS Chapter 161"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=3883","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:10Z","sha256":"63ae3dbe05c84db57c10b558d227f2a191841d999dc6ae0ed615454bab92f0d3","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-161.164","next":"us-ky/krs-161.166"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
