{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-161.167","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 161.167","heading":"Program to encourage persons to enter Kentucky teaching profession --","body":"Reports.\n(1) By January 1, 2001, the Kentucky Department of Education, with help from\nrepresentatives of the Education Professional Standards Board, the Council on\nPostsecondary Education, the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority, the\nAssociation of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities, public and private\nnot-for-profit postsecondary institutions, and local educational agencies, shall\ndevelop a plan, includin g timelines for implementation, for a multidimensional\nrecruitment and information program, to encourage persons to enter the teaching\nprofession and to seek employment in Kentucky.\n(2) The program shall not supplant or diminish current efforts required in  KRS\n161.165.\n(3) The components of the program shall include:\n(a) Early recruitment programs to inform middle and high school students about\nthe potential of teaching as a career;\n(b) Programs to encourage paraprofessionals in schools, as well as other\nnontraditional students, to pursue additional education to become teachers;\n(c) Programs to enlist highly skilled career employees in specific content areas to\npursue teaching as a second career;\n(d) Options for recruiting persons with liberal arts and scien ces majors and\ncurrent students with nondeclared majors into nontraditional and accelerated\nteacher preparation programs;\n(e) Marketing strategies for informing the public of the importance of high\nquality teaching to student achievement, the value of teac hers to society as a\nwhole, the benefits and rewards of teaching, and the options for entering\nteacher preparation, including scholarship information; and\n(f) Expanding the Kentucky Department of Education's electronic bulletin board\nfor certified vacancie s in local school districts to include an option for\npotential teachers to voluntarily post their availability for education positions\nwithin the state.\n(4) No later than March 15, 2001, the Department of Education shall present a status\nreport of the recr uitment and information program to the Interim Joint Committee\non Education; and no later than October 15, 2001, the Department of Education\nshall present to the Interim Joint Committee on Education and the Interim Joint\nCommittee on Appropriations and Rev enue a summary report with\nrecommendations.","path":["KRS Chapter 161"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=3885","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:10Z","sha256":"344dad072687ba88a167b264d52ebeea3fb2639d1c1a80ddaf03274ddc8f978f","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-161.166","next":"us-ky/krs-161.168"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
