{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-161.500","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 161.500","heading":"Service credit.","body":"(1) At the close of each fiscal year, the retirement system shall add service credit to the\naccount of each member who made contributions to his or her account during the\nyear. Nonuniversity members are entitled to a full year of service credit if they have\nno more than five (5) unpaid days in a school or fiscal year under a contract\nrequiring a work schedule of one hundred eighty -five (185) days or greater.\nUniversity members are entitled to a full year of service credit if they have no more\nthan five (5) unpaid days in a school or fiscal year under a contract requiring a work\nschedule of one hundred eighty (180) days or greater. In the event a member is paid\nfor less than the required number of days for a full year of service credit, the\nmember may purchase credit according to administrative regulations established by\nthe board of trustees. In no case shall more than one (1) year of service be credited\nfor all service performed in one (1) fiscal year. Members who complete their\nemployment contract prior to the close of a fiscal year and elect to retire prior to the\nclose of a fiscal year shall have their service credit reduced by eight percent (8%)\nfor each calendar month that the retirement becomes effective prior to July 1.\n(2) Members who are employed and pai d for less than the number of days required in\ntheir normal employment year shall be entitled to pro rata service credit for the\nfractional service. Such credit shall be based upon the number of days employed\nand the number of days in the member's annual e mployment agreement or normal\nemployment year.\n(3) Service credit may not exceed the ratio between the school or fiscal year and the\nnumber of months or fraction of a month the member is employed during that year.\n(4) No service credit shall be granted in the Teachers' Retirement System for service\nthat has been or will be used in qualifying for annuity benefit payments from\nanother retirement system financed wholly or in part by public funds.","path":["KRS Chapter 161"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=51804","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:10Z","sha256":"208fcf31958eebd570488f2576d60bc44b047d95bd7c9ac1629c488911ba8a58","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-161.490","next":"us-ky/krs-161.505"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
