{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-161.607","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 161.607","heading":"Employment in position covered by other Kentucky retirement system.","body":"(1) Any member of the Teachers' Retirement System who enters employment covered\nby the Kentucky Employees Retirement System, the State Police Retirement\nSystem, or the County Employees Retirement System, prior to July 1, 1976, may\nretain membership in the Teac hers' Retirement System instead of joining the new\nsystem.\n(2) Retention of membership in the Teachers' Retirement System by any member of the\nGeneral Assembly who upon election is a contributing member of the Teachers'\nRetirement System shall be effected by conforming with KRS 61.680(4)(c).\nMembers of the General Assembly who retain membership shall make retirement\ncontributions based upon their annual compensation as defined under KRS 161.220\nor on their creditable compensation as defined under KRS 61.510 , whichever is the\nlarger amount. Service as a member of the General Assembly may be used to meet\nthe service requirements of KRS 61.680(2)(a) regardless of the system to which\ncontributions are made by the member.\n(3) Any member of the Teachers' Retirement System entering employment as described\nin subsection (1) of this section must exercise the option within ninety (90) days of\nthe beginning of such employment.\n(4) Persons who enter service covered by the Teachers' Retirement System prior to July\n1, 1976 , and who hold membership in a Kentucky retirement system financed in\nwhole or part with public funds may retain membership in that system providing the\nstatutes and regulations governing said system make continued membership\npossible.\n(5) Any person who h as elected an option provided in this section may cancel such\nelection and gain membership in the system which normally covers the position in\nwhich currently employed, provided that such cancellation of option election must\nbe completed prior to January 1, 1977.","path":["KRS Chapter 161"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=3959","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:11Z","sha256":"34b4e7c2cc4e7eb4f5c407d6ef682db0f7bf8bbe4a85004689ae44660b51222f","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-161.605","next":"us-ky/krs-161.608"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
