{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-164.525","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 164.525","heading":"Center for Mathematics -- Creation, duties, and location -- Annual report.","body":"(Effective July 15, 2026)\n(1) The Center for Mathematics is hereby created to make available professional\ndevelopment for teachers in reliable, research -based diagnostic assessment and\nintervention strategies, coaching and mentoring models, and other programs in\nmathematics. The center shall be headed by an executive director and administered\nby Northern Kentucky University. The center shall:\n(a) Act as a clearinghouse for  information about professional development\nprograms for teachers that address mathematics diagnostic assessment,\nintervention programs, coaching and mentoring programs, and other\ninstructional strategies to address students' needs;\n(b) Collaborate with Ke ntucky's other public and private postsecondary\ninstitutions to develop teachers' mathematical knowledge needed for teaching\nand help teachers improve students' mathematical concepts, thinking,\nproblem-solving, and skills, with an emphasis on diagnostic as sessment and\nintervention programs for students in the primary program;\n(c) Provide teacher training to develop teacher leaders and teaching specialists in\nprimary programs who have skills in diagnostic assessment and intervention\nservices to assist strugg ling students or those who are at risk of failure in\nmathematics. The center may contract for services in order to carry out this\nresponsibility;\n(d) Maintain a demonstration and training site for mathematics located at each of\nthe public universities;\n(e) Advise the Kentucky Department of Education and Kentucky Board of\nEducation regarding:\n1. Early mathematics content, diagnostic assessment practices, and\nintervention programs;\n2. Costs and effectiveness of various mathematics intervention programs;\n3. Coaching and mentoring models that help improve student\nachievements;\n4. Trends and issues relating to mathematics programs in schools\nthroughout the state; and\n5. The establishment and implementation of the Middle School\nMathematics and Science Scholars P rogram established under KRS\n158.848; and\n(f) Disseminate information to teachers, administrators, and policymakers on an\nongoing basis.\n(2) On or before October 1 of each year, Northern Kentucky University shall submit a\nreport to the Council on Postsecon dary Education and the Legislative Research\nCommission, for referral to the appropriate interim joint committee, on the\noperation of the center and the impact of the center on student achievement.","path":["KRS Chapter 164"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=58011","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:16Z","sha256":"df4a8ff0eb75b81547e44b888ec8b023fd11d15bbbc5508aff8d6d7d15f94b46","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-164.520","next":"us-ky/krs-164.530"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
