{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-164.720","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 164.720","heading":"Permit required to excavate.","body":"(1) No person shall explore, excavate, appropriate or remove from land owned or\nleased by the Commonwealth or any state agency or any political subdivision or\nmunicipal corporation of the Commonwealth, any archaeological site or object of\nantiquity without fir st obtaining a permit from the Department of Anthropology\nupon the recommendation of the agency owning or having control of the land upon\nwhich the same is situated.\n(2) If exploration or excavation of archaeological sites and the finding and gathering of\nobjects of antiquity is undertaken for the benefit of reputable museums, universities,\ncolleges or other recognized scientific or educational institutions with a view to\npromoting the knowledge of archaeology or anthropology, permits shall be regularly\ngranted.\n(3) Each permit issued by the department under this section shall accurately describe\nthe location and sites of the ruins or deposits where the exploration or excavation is\nto be conducted and shall authorize such actions only at such location. The p ermit\nshall be upon such conditions as the department shall deem advisable for maximum\neffective exploration with a minimum of injury to the surrounding terrain. Each\npermit shall terminate upon the following thirty-first day of December, subject to an\nannual renewal on or before the following January 15.
