{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-164.929","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 164.929","heading":"Sponsorship of residency positions -- Approval of sites -- Funding priority","body":"-- Policies and procedures for determination of allocation.\n(1) All new residency positions shall be sponsored by the University of Kentucky or the\nUniversity of Louisville. T he residency positions created by KRS 164.927 shall be\nserved in sites approved by the appropriate specialty board for certification and by\nthe Council on Postsecondary Education.\n(2) Funding priority shall be given to programs in which all or a portion of  the\nresidency occurs in sites away from both the University of Kentucky and the\nUniversity of Louisville.\n(3) Each individual serving a residency under KRS 164.927 shall, within the total\nperiod of residency, undertake a minimum of three (3) months educat ion in a\ncommunity facility in Kentucky outside the counties of Fayette and Jefferson, or in\nany institution serving a medically underserved community as designated by the\nUnited States Department of Health, Education and Welfare, subject to the approval\nof the certifying board in each specialty, provided however that not more than\ntwenty-five percent (25%) of the individuals from each university funded under this\nsection shall be permitted to satisfy the three (3) month requirement in a medically\nunderserved area in the counties of Fayette and Jefferson.\n(4) The University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville shall recommend\npolicies and procedures for determining the allocation of new residency positions\nfor approval by the Council on Postsecondary  Education using the following\ncriteria:\n(a) The available or expected number and types of qualified faculty necessary for\nthe proper degree of supervision and teaching;\n(b) The scope and volume of patient care;\n(c) The amount of available physical facilities;\n(d) The current number and types of residency positions offered at each\nuniversity;\n(e) Regional needs for the manpower trained under the provisions of KRS\n164.927 to 164.933;\n(f) The extent of involvement in education in primary care in ambulatory ca re\nsettings; and\n(g) Any other criteria which may be developed by the University of Kentucky and\nthe University of Louisville and accepted by the Council on Postsecondary\nEducation.","path":["KRS Chapter 164"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=4488","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:18Z","sha256":"f6db8f027397262acaad30092adc47a554c7bdb2b947f524b38cec1efb60befe","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-164.927","next":"us-ky/krs-164.931"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
