{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-164.935","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 164.935","heading":"Physician recruitment and placement services for underserved geographic","body":"areas.\n(1) As used in this section:\n(a) \"Physician\" means a medical doctor practicing full -time family medicine,\ngeneral obstetrics and gynecology, general pediatrics, or general internal\nmedicine; and\n(b) \"Underserved geographic area\" means a county in which the ratio between\nphysicians practicing full -time in that county and the county's population\nresults in each physician serving two thousand five hundred (2,500) or more\nresidents, based on population data acceptable to either the University of\nKentucky or the University of Louisville.\n(2) The University of Kentucky and University of Louisville shall establish and\nmaintain physician recruitment and placement services, the princi pal function of\nwhich shall be to recruit or place family or general practice physicians in\nunderserved geographic areas. The Cabinet for Health and Family Services shall pay\neach university fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) annually for basic administrativ e\ncosts in addition to the fees enumerated in subsection (4) of this section.\n(3) Physician recruitment and placement services may be contracted by licensed health-\ncare facilities or services to assist in recruiting physicians in underserved\ngeographic are as. Fees shall be charged by the University of Kentucky or the\nUniversity of Louisville to the contracting party in an amount not to exceed ten\nthousand dollars ($10,000) per physician.\n(4) If no licensed health-care facility or service has contracted for recruitment services,\nwhen the University of Kentucky or the University of Louisville places a physician\nin an underserved geographic area or a psychiatrist in a state mental health facility,\nthe following fees shall be paid to the university by the Cabine t for Health and\nFamily Services, the total of which shall not exceed fifty thousand dollars ($50,000)\nper university in addition to the fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) per university\nenumerated in subsection (2) of this section:\n(a) Ten thousand dollars ($10,000) for a family practice physician entering\npermanent, full-time practice;\n(b) Ten thousand dollars ($10,000) for a psychiatrist entering full -time permanent\nemployment in a state mental health facility;\n(c) Eight thousand dollars ($8,000) for a gen eral obstetrician -gynecologist\nentering permanent, full-time practice;\n(d) Two thousand dollars ($2,000) for a general pediatrician or general internal\nmedicine practitioner entering permanent, full-time practice; and\n(e) One thousand dollars ($1,000) for any other licensed medical practitioner\nentering permanent, full-time practice.\n(5) Fees paid to the universities under the provisions of subsection (3) of this section\nshall be made only after sufficient proof has been presented documenting the\nuniversity's principal role in influencing the physician's practice location.\nCorrespondence from physicians placed, as well as all other parties directly\ninvolved, shall state that the university substantially influenced the physician's\nchoice of practice location and describe in detail the services provided by the\nuniversity.","path":["KRS Chapter 164"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=4491","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:18Z","sha256":"e298d86632541d65aad2c2bad7a1c5efab075a7d439a6b924d5174cb1a2c1133","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-164.933","next":"us-ky/krs-164.936"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
