{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-164.937","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 164.937","heading":"Center of Excellence in Rural Health.","body":"(1) The  University of Kentucky shall maintain a Center of Excellence in Rural\nHealth.\n(2) The  mission of the Center of Excellence in Rural Health shall be the\nimprovement of the health of all rural Kentuckians and the improvement of rural\nhealth care systems through education, research, and service.\n(3) The Center of Excellence in Rural Health shall:\n(a) Support a site-based director, core faculty, and staff;\n(b) Collect and maintain statistical and other information relating to rural\nhealth status, rural health care systems, rural health policy, and other\nissues affecting the health and well-being of rural populations;\n(c) Collect, analyze, interpret, disseminate, and make  recommendations\nregarding the availability, distribution, and  sufficiency of the health\nprofessions workforce;\n(d) Provide educational opportunities for students committed to rural health\ncare:\n1. To obtain education in needed health professions as determined by\nthe workforce analyses, rotating these programs as necessary;\n2. By testing and developing innovative models for learning; and\n3. By reserving funds budgeted for specific educational programs that\nin the future are deemed no longer necessary for use for educational\nprograms for other health professions;\n(e) Maintain site-based family practice residencies;\n(f) Serve as the federally designated Office of Rural Health and perform the\nduties prescribed by the United States Health Resources and Services\nAdministration;\n(g) Administer the Healthcare Worker Loan Relief Program established under\nKRS  164.936;\n(h) Demonstrate or provide innovative programs that improve the health of\nrural Kentuckians and strengthen rural health care systems; and\n(i) Advocate for rural health care.\n(4) To  the extent additional funds are appropriated, the Center of Excellence in\nRural Health shall establish additional sites throughout the Commonwealth  as\nnecessary to achieve the mission of the center.\n(5) Nothing in this section shall be construed to restrict the study of rural health\npolicies, workforce analyses, or the training of health professionals in or for\nrural or medically underserved areas by other state universities.\n(6) The  University of Kentucky shall report to the Council on Postsecondary\nEducation and  the Legislative Research  Commission  a detailed, audited\nstatement of expenditures for each  program  function in the Center of\nExcellence for Rural Health Care by September  1 of each  year which\nenumerates expenditures for the preceding fiscal year.","path":["KRS Chapter 164"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=52294","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:18Z","sha256":"44c1dd0f8ec2c24976c1fdbf05b0e15155cade0b6061822d3bfd267a7d612599","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-164.936","next":"us-ky/krs-164.938"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
