{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-164.970","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 164.970","heading":"Police officers -- Use of vehicles.","body":"(1) Vehicles used for emergency purposes by the police department of a public\ninstitution of postsecondary education shall be considered as emergency vehicles\nand shall be equipped with blue lights and sirens and shall be operated in\nconformance with the requirements of KRS Chapter 189.\n(2) Police officers directly employed by the governing board of public institutions of\npostsecondary education pursuant to KRS 164.950 to 164.980 shall have the rights\naccorded to peace officers provided under KRS 527.020, provi ded the governing\nboard of the public institution of postsecondary education so authorizes in writing.\n(3) Police departments of public institutions of postsecondary education may install,\nmaintain, and operate radio systems on police or other radio freque ncies under\nlicenses issued by the Federal Communications Commission, or its successor, KRS\n432.570 to the contrary notwithstanding.\n(4) Police departments of public institutions of postsecondary education shall comply\nwith the requirements of the Kentucky  Revised Statutes and the Justice and Public\nSafety Cabinet with regard to reporting of criminal and other statistics.","path":["KRS Chapter 164"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=43815","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:18Z","sha256":"13895854f20e488febd33811fb37b2c1557af4f592226033befc8b6213b329a9","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-164.965","next":"us-ky/krs-164.975"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
