{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-168.020","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 168.020","heading":"Definitions for KRS 168.010 to 168.100.","body":"As used in KRS 168.010 to 168.100, the following words and terms have the following\nmeanings, unless in any instance, the context shall clearly indicate another meaning, in\nwhich event the context shall be controlling:\n(1) \"Authority\" means the Kentucky Authority for Educational Television;\n(2) \"Board\" means the Kentucky Board of Education;\n(3) \"Department\" means the Kentucky Department of Education;\n(4) \"Public schools\" means the state-supported schools of the elementary and secondary\nlevels, as defined in KRS 157.320;\n(5) \"Commission\" means the State Property and Buildings Commission of Kentucky;\n(6) \"Council\" means the Council on Postsecondary Education in Kentucky;\n(7) \"University of Kentucky\" means the University of Kentucky as one (1) entity,\nincluding its present and future extensions;\n(8) \"State colleges and universities\" means and includes Eastern Kentucky University,\nKentucky State University, Morehead State University, Murray State University,\nNorthern Kentucky University, Western Kentucky University, and the University of\nLouisville, and institutions in the Kentucky Community and Technical College\nSystem;\n(9) \"Educational television\" means and includes the production of television programs,\nthe filming or taping thereof, the purchase or lease of fi lmed or taped programs\nproduced by others, and the transmission or relaying of them for utilization:\n(a) Which may be used in aid of education in the public schools and public\ninstitutions of higher education; and\n(b) For limited and incidental use in furtherance of other proper public functions;\n(10) \"Television facilities\" means and includes sites, buildings, structures, machinery,\nequipment, and installations, each with necessary or appropriate appurtenances,\nused or useful in the furtherance of educational television;\n(11) \"Related functions\" or \"related services\" means and includes the use of facilities\noperated or leased by the authority, or which may be added or connected to such\nfacilities as permitted by applicable statutes, and to prepare, transmit, or enable the\nexchange of nontelevision programs, services, or functions for and among the\npublic schools, public institutions of higher education, and other state agencies:\n(a) In aid of education; and\n(b) For use in other proper public functions; provided, however, that su ch related\nfunctions or related services may include, but are not limited to, the following\nexamples: computer -assisted instruction, data for teaching or administrative\npurposes, and educational noncommercial radio;\n(12) \"Related facilities\" means and incl udes sites, buildings, structures, machinery,\nequipment, and installations, each with necessary or appropriate appurtenances,\nused or useful in the furtherance of related functions or services.","path":["KRS Chapter 168"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=4727","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:21Z","sha256":"78fb966684cc322d06402a370ac32d5fc0406832a57962e2e8a14668e96a7768","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-168.015","next":"us-ky/krs-168.030"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
