{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-17.556","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 17.556","heading":"Membership of board -- Chair -- Terms -- Committees.","body":"The board shall consist of the members named in subsections (1) and (2) of this section:\n(1) (a) The commissioner of the Department of Corrections, or the commissioner's\ndesignee;\n(b) The commissioner of the Department of Juvenile Justice, or the\ncommissioner's designee;\n(c) The program administrator of the Sex Offender Treatment Program created\npursuant to KRS 197.400; and\n(d) The commissioner of the Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental\nand Intellectual Disabilities, or the commissioner's designee.\n(2) The following members, appointed by the Governor:\n(a) One (1) probation and parole officer;\n(b) Four (4) mental health professionals licensed or certified pursuant to KRS\nChapter 309, 311, 314, 319, or 335 who demonstrated expertise in working\nwith sex offenders;\n(c) One (1) professional working in an agency which provides services to adult or\nchild victims of sex offenses; and\n(d) One (1) representative of an advocacy group with a demonstrated interest in\nthe welfare of victims of sex offenses.\n(3) The Governor shall appoint the first chair of the board who shall serve for a term of\ntwo (2) years after which the chair shall be elected by the members of the board.\n(4) The probation and parole officer and the members identified in subsection (2) of\nthis section shall serve for the remainder of the term of office of the Governor\nduring whose incumbency they were appointed, unless removed sooner for cause,\nbut they shall remain on the board until their successors are appointed or until they\nare reappointed.\n(5) No member appointed pursuant to subsection (4) of this section may be represented\nby a designee.\n(6) No member appointed pursuant to subsection (4) of this section shall serve more\nthan four (4) years unless reappointed.\n(7) All members identified under subsection (1) of this section shall serve during their\nterms of office.\n(8) All members of the board shall be reimbursed for their necessary travel and other\nexpenses actually incurred in the discharge of their duties on the board.\n(9) The board shall be empowered to create committees for the purpose of carrying out\nits statutory duties.\n(10) The board shall be attached to the Department of Corrections for administrative\npurposes.","path":["KRS Chapter 17"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=40742","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:38Z","sha256":"40767f528a52752d8a2f07b40a22e0ba9e5c7fb97f7a99583a3f5f48f0e8719e","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-17.554","next":"us-ky/krs-17.558"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
