{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-171.410","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 171.410","heading":"Definitions for KRS 171.420 to 171.740.","body":"As used in KRS 171.420 to 171.740:\n(1) \"Public record or record\" means all books, papers, maps, photographs, cards, tapes,\ndisks, diskettes, recordings, and other documentary materials, regardless of physical\nform or characteristics, which are prepared, owned, used, in the possession of or\nretained by a public agency. \"Public record\" shall not include any records owned by\na private person or corporation that are not related to functions, activities, programs\nor operations funded by state or local authority;\n(2) \"Department\" means the Department for Libraries and Archives;\n(3) \"Commission\" means the State Archives and Records Commission; and\n(4) \"Public agency\" means every state or local office, state department, division,\nbureau, board, commission and authority; every legislative board, commi ssion,\ncommittee and officer; every county and city governing body, council, school\ndistrict board, special district board, municipal corporation, and any board,\ndepartment, commission, committee, subcommittee, ad hoc committee, council or\nagency thereof; and any other body which is created by state or local authority and\nwhich derives at least twenty -five percent (25%) of its funds from state or local\nauthority.","path":["KRS Chapter 171"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=4819","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:22Z","sha256":"640d68f725321a267f528dbb0eaaaf7728b3bd605faa8b1982326c97209729ce","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-171.400","next":"us-ky/krs-171.420"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
