{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-171.580","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 171.580","heading":"Historical records.","body":"The department, whenever it appears to be in the public interest, is authorized:\n(1) To accept for deposit in the State Archives and Records Center the records of any\nstate or local agency or of the General Assembly that are determined by the\ndepartment t o have sufficient historical or other value to warrant their continued\npreservation;\n(2) To direct and effect the transfer to the department of any records that have been in\nexistence for more than fifty (50) years and that are determined by the department to\nhave sufficient historical or other value to warrant their continued preservation,\nunless the head of the state or local agency which has custody of them certifies in\nwriting to the department that they must be retained in his custody for use in the\nconduct of the regular current business of the said agency;\n(3) To direct and effect, with the approval of the head of the originating agency, or its\nsuccessor, if any, the transfer of records deposited, or approved for deposit, in the\nState Archives and R ecords Center to public or educational institutions for special\nresearch or exhibit purposes; provided that title to such records shall remain vested\nin the Commonwealth of Kentucky unless otherwise authorized by law, and\nprovided further such records may be recalled after reasonable notice in writing;\n(4) To direct and effect the transfer of materials from private sources authorized to be\nreceived by the State Archives and Records Center by the provisions of KRS\n171.620.","path":["KRS Chapter 171"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=4836","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:22Z","sha256":"91a61082014f67e4ae9165a37ec456c1e72ed82fe3b3663ebcd85ef981f33107","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-171.570","next":"us-ky/krs-171.590"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
