{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-171.800","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 171.800","heading":"Kentucky African -American Heritage Commission -- Members -- Officers","body":"-- Meetings -- Funding -- Program established.\n(1) The Kentucky African -American Heritage Commission is hereby established to\nperform the functions specified in KRS 171.805.\n(2) The membership of the commission shall consist of three (3) ex officio members\nand seventeen (17) members who derive from geographically diverse areas of the\nstate and who represent various heritage interests as follows:\n(a) The secretary of the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, or the secretary's\ndesignee to serve ex officio;\n(b) The president of Kentucky State University, or the president's designee to\nserve ex officio;\n(c) The director of the Kentucky Heritage Council, or the director's designee to\nserve ex officio;\n(d) Four (4) members from institutions of higher education;\n(e) One (1) member from the preservation community;\n(f) One (1) member from the arts community; and\n(g) Eleven (11) members from the public-at-large.\n(3) Appointed members shall be appointed by the Governor and shall serve for terms of\nfour (4) years. Any vacancies shall be filled by appointment of the Governor for the\nremainder of the unexpired term.\n(4) Commission members shall receive no compensation for their services but may be\nreimbursed for actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their\nduties.\n(5) From the commission membership, the Governor shall appoint a chairman and a\nvice chairman of the commission. The commission may elect by majority vote other\nofficers deemed necessary.\n(6) The commission shall meet at the call of the chairman, but not less often than three\ntimes during each calendar year. A majority of the members appointed to the\ncommission shall constitute a quorum.\n(7) The commission shall be attache d to the Kentucky Heritage Council for\nadministrative purposes.\n(8) The commission may accept grants or raise funds from any available source, public\nor private, to accomplish its duties and responsibilities. Committees may be formed\nat the discretion of the chairman.\n(9) The African -American Heritage Program is established as a branch within the\nKentucky Heritage Division, whose responsibilities shall include providing staff\nservices needed to perform its duties under KRS 171.805.","path":["KRS Chapter 171"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=4863","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:23Z","sha256":"ffae045e1b7972ea68c26daf0f5524438a22aec75ad363da8c2eec5f6c91d873","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-171.788","next":"us-ky/krs-171.805"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
