{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-171.805","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 171.805","heading":"Purpose of commission -- Duties and functions.","body":"(1) The Kentucky African -American Heritage Commission shall be dedicated to the\npreservation and protection of all meaningful vestiges of Kentucky's African -\nAmerican heritage.\n(2) The duties and functions of the commission shall be to:\n(a) Advise the secretary of the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet and agencies\nwithin the cabinet on matters relating to African-American heritage;\n(b) Encourage other public and private agencies within the areas of the arts, the\nhumanities, and the sciences to incorporate the A frican-American influence\nwhen developing programs on the history and heritage of Kentucky;\n(c) Represent a network of groups and individuals interested or involved in\npromoting awareness of African-American heritage in Kentucky;\n(d) Advocate the preservat ion, conservation, and interpretation of significant\nbuildings, sites, neighborhoods, documents, artifacts, and lifeways that\nrepresent and embody African-American heritage;\n(e) Recognize and sanction projects which advance wider knowledge of African -\nAmericans' impact on life in Kentucky; and\n(f) Coordinate an initiative to protect, preserve, and promote the history of the\nUnderground Railroad in Kentucky, in accordance with KRS 171.812.","path":["KRS Chapter 171"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=4864","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:23Z","sha256":"c7e2e08e18844fbf68c8c66746de6936bd5b05fffce2f9b420b431b382028b52","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-171.800","next":"us-ky/krs-171.810"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
