{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-171.820","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 171.820","heading":"Kentucky Native American Heritage Commission -- Members -- Officers --","body":"Meetings -- Funding.\n(1) The Kentucky Native American Heritage Commission is hereby established to\npromote, in partnership with the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, awareness of\nsignificant Native American influences within the historical and cultural\nexperiences of Kentucky.\n(2) The membership of the commission shall consist of seventeen (17) members who\nderive from geographically diverse areas of the state and who represent var ious\nheritage interests as follows:\n(a) The secretary of the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, or the secretary's\ndesignee;\n(b) Three (3) members from institutions of higher learning;\n(c) Two (2) members from the preservation or archeological communities;\n(d) One (1) member from the arts community; and\n(e) Ten (10) members from the public at large, eight (8) of whom shall be of\nNative American heritage.\n(3) Members listed in paragraphs (b) to (e) of subsection (2) of this section shall be\nappointed by the Governor and shall serve for terms of four (4) years. Any vacancy\nshall be filled by appointment of the Governor for the remainder of the unexpired\nterm.\n(4) Commission members shall receive no compensation for their services but may be\nreimbursed for act ual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their\nduties.\n(5) From the commission membership, the Governor shall appoint a chair and vice\nchair of the commission. The commission may elect by majority vote other officers\ndeemed necessary.\n(6) The commission shall meet at least three (3) times per year. Notice of the time and\nlocation of each meeting shall be provided in writing to each member at least ten\n(10) days in advance of the meeting.\n(7) A majority of the members present shall constitute a quorum.\n(8) Committees may be formed at the discretion of the chair.\n(9) The commission may seek and accept grants or raise funds from any available\nsource, public or private, to accomplish its duties and responsibilities.\n(10) The commissi on shall be attached for administrative purposes to the Kentucky\nHeritage Council, whose responsibilities shall include but not be limited to\ndesignating a staff person to coordinate commission staff needs and providing other\nstaff and services as needed f or the commission to perform its duties under KRS\n171.822.","path":["KRS Chapter 171"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=4869","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:23Z","sha256":"3db2f90757423bf2b5fa05df0ad2b628befd361729d0710c3241772f8c8a51c1","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-171.816","next":"us-ky/krs-171.822"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
