{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-172.180","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 172.180","heading":"Alternate method of financing library.","body":"Any county may adopt the following method of financing the cost of operation and\nmaintenance of the county law library, in lieu of the method set out in KRS 172.130 or\n172.170:\n(1) Upon petition of three -fourths (3/4) of the duly licensed and practicing at torneys\nresident in the county addressed to the Circuit Judge of the county, to the effect that\nthey, as officers of the various courts of the county, recognize the need of a more\nadequate county law library, there being attached to said petition an attested copy of\na resolution of the fiscal court of the county indorsing the adoption of this optional\nmethod of financing the cost of operation and maintenance of the county law\nlibrary, the Circuit Judge shall enter an order noting that said optional plan for  the\nfinancing of the cost of operation and maintenance of the county law library has\nbeen adopted.\n(2) The order shall set forth the name of each duly licensed and practicing attorney\nsigning said petition, and the order book and page number containing th e resolution\nof the fiscal court.\n(3) The order shall direct the following:\n(a) That upon receipt of the order by the clerks of said courts there shall be taxed\nas costs in all criminal actions, except examining trials and felony trials,\nthereafter instituted in said court the following fee, which shall be designated\nas county law library fee, in District Court, a sum not to exceed fifty cents\n($0.50); in Circuit and District Courts, on all civil actions a sum not to exceed\none dollar ($1) excepting, howeve r, in counties containing cities of the first\nclass and counties containing an urban -county government or cities with\npopulations equal to or greater than twenty thousand (20,000) based upon the\nmost recent federal decennial census, where the county law li brary fee, in\nDistrict Court, shall be a sum not to exceed one dollar and fifty cents ($1.50);\nin Circuit and District Courts, on all civil actions, a sum not to exceed three\ndollars ($3); and\n(b) That the circuit clerk shall at the end of each month pay a ll sums collected as\ncounty law library fees during the preceding month, to the trustees of the\ncounty law library, and the clerk shall make a full report with said payment,\nand receive a receipt for all payments.","path":["KRS Chapter 172"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=43828","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:23Z","sha256":"56bacbf0034ac490d3b570ca4bf2a139cc31f0478bea5b25ac6cb011fb39bd55","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-172.170","next":"us-ky/krs-172.190"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
