{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-173.350","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 173.350","heading":"Organization of board -- Meetings -- Powers and duties.","body":"(1) The board of trustees shall constitute a corporate body with perpetual succession.\nWithin ten (10) days after their appointment, the appointive officer shall call a\nmeeting of the library board to organize by the election of such officers as they\ndeem necessary and meet on a regularly scheduled basis thereafter once each month.\nIf the appointive officer does not call a meeting, the trustees may do so on their own\ninitiative.\n(2) They shall adopt such bylaws and policies for their own guidance and for the\ngovernment of the library as they deem expedient; have the supervision, care and\ncustody of all property of the library including its quarters or buildings; employ a\nlibrary director and upon that person's recommendation employ such other staff as\nmay be nec essary, who shall be certified in accordance with KRS 171.240 to\n171.300, fix the compensation of the library director and staff; adopt personnel\npolicies which shall include dismissal of employees; submit annually to the\nlegislative body a budget containi ng estimates in detail of the amount of money\nnecessary for the library for the ensuing year; allot funds for the purchase of library\nmaterials and supplies for the library; and do all other acts necessary for the orderly\nand efficient management and control of the library.\n(3) They may accept such gifts of money or property for library purposes as they deem\nexpedient; lease or purchase land for library buildings; lease, purchase or erect an\nappropriate building or buildings for library purposes and acquire  such other\nproperty and equipment as may be needed therefor; and may enter into contracts for\nlibrary service with other library boards as provided for in KRS 65.210 to 65.300\nand with other units of government as provided for in KRS 173.310(4).","path":["KRS Chapter 173"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=4940","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:24Z","sha256":"2db27b8d1dfcc67f975bf53bce0c07e5e437dc7f24a7d934a81ce0382ed14dd3","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-173.340","next":"us-ky/krs-173.360"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
