{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-173.610","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 173.610","heading":"Tax rate change prohibited except by vote of people -- Procedure --","body":"Limitation.\n(1) The special ad valorem tax rate for the maintenance and operation of a public\nlibrary district created pursuant to KRS 173.470 before July 13, 1984, may be\nincreased o r decreased by submission to the voters of the district at a general\nelection and approved by a majority of the votes cast on the issue. The board or any\none hundred (100) qualified voters residing within the district may file a duly\ncertified copy of a re solution or petition with the clerk of each county within the\ndistrict and the county clerk shall certify whether the petition is sufficient not later\nthan the second Tuesday in August prior to the election and the clerk shall\nthereupon cause the question to be prepared to be presented to the voters in\nsubstantially the following form: \"Are you in favor of increasing (or decreasing)\nfrom (insert amount) cents to (insert amount) cents on each one hundred dollars\n($100) of the assessed valuation of all proper ty in the (insert name of public library\ndistrict) public library district the maximum tax which the district can impose for\nthe maintenance and operation of (insert name of district) public library district?\"\n(2) Any increase provided for in subsection (1 ) or (3) of this section shall not exceed\ntwenty cents ($0.20) on each one hundred dollars ($100) of the assessed valuation\nof all property in the district.\n(3) The special ad valorem tax rate for the maintenance and operation of a public\nlibrary district created pursuant to KRS 173.470 before July 13, 1984, may be\nincreased or decreased by the procedure in KRS 173.790.","path":["KRS Chapter 173"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=4964","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:51:24Z","sha256":"c5a5fc565dc5f7002e4100d53986ba3e8941918b0602b1fcf641a19c47c8ccfc","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-173.600","next":"us-ky/krs-173.620"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
